Chapter 28: No Future

Delaney spent hours picking out an outfit for her first date with Jack, wanting to wear something that would appeal to this bad boy reputation without looking like she put a lot effort into it. When she meets him at The Toadstool early Saturday afternoon, she's not sure if her fashion choice has the intended impact or not, as Jack says nothing about it when he invites her to join him in a game of pool.

Then, as he's lining up a shot, he raises his eyes in her direction and smiles. "If I lose, it will be your fault you know. I can't pay attention to my game with you standing there being so gorgeous."
It's a close game, but he does lose. "I suppose a rematch would be pointless," he laughs, "You'll only own me again."
"You didn't do that badly," she laughs, "If it would help, I could stand somewhere else while you take your turn."
"That would just encourage to cheat, you know," he says with a wicked smile, "Really, I'm fine with losing, as long as you're with me."

"Can you meet me tonight?" he asks he her, "We could dancing."
"Sure," Delaney says, "But what about the rest of the afternoon?"
"I have some stuff I have to do," he says, "But I'll be free by 7. That's around the time Moonlight Falls opens. Meet me there?"
"If there's anything I can help you with..." Delaney says, hoping she doesn't sound clingy or desperate.
"You're really sweet, you know that?" he says, smiling that smile again, the one that absolutely devastates her, "But, no, it's just some stuff I need to do for my Dad. See you at seven?"

"Okay," Delaney agrees, and, turning back to him before she leaves, she surprises them both with a shy kiss.
"Seven," he says again, touching her hand lightly before they part, his blue eyes gleaming over his smile.

While Delaney is out on her first date, Cassidy, Aurora, Shadow and Iola spend Saturday afternoon at the library.

With a few hours to kill before she meets Jack again, Delaney gets in a strength workout. She doesn't remember much of her mother, but blames her for her scrawny physique nonetheless. She obviously doesn't get it from her father.

"Amanda and I are going to the arcade tonight," Kyle says, interrupting her exercise, "Cass is coming along. Do you want to join us?"

"I have a date, actually," Delaney answers, her excitement bubbling up again, "With Jack Horner."

"You're kidding right? Jack Horner?" Kyle gasps, "You know he's a delinquent, right?"

"He's not," Delaney defends her crush, "He's sweet to me, anyway."

Kyle rolls his eyes, "Laney, you could do so much better. Even Jack's brother Jesse is better than he is. Seriously, forget him and come out with us tonight."

"This is none of your business, big brother," Delaney says, "I'll se who I want to see."

"Well, be careful, then. He'll only get you into trouble..."

"I was afraid you might blow me off," Jack says when she joins him at the bubble bar in the Moonlight Falls club.

"I'm only a little late," she giggles. She was intentionally late, though she was ready far ahead of time. But she didn't want to show up early and look desperate.

"I'm just surprised you're even seeing me, Laney," he says, "I don't have the best reputation."

"I don't care about your reputation. You just like to have fun, I understand that."

He raises an eyebrow at her, but says nothing in response.

After bubbles, the sing a duet on the karaoke stage.

And then they hit the dance floor.

"We're right up on your curfew," Jack says, "You should be heading home."

"My curfew?" she laughs, "It's the town's curfew, yours as well as mine."

"Rules don't apply to Jack Horner," Jack laughs, "But I don't want you getting into trouble because you're with me."

"Yeah," she sighs, "My dad will flip if I'm not home in twenty minutes."

"We have time for a kiss," Jack says, pulling her close.

As they get ready for bed, Delaney confides all the details of her date with her twin.

"Don't get too attached to him," Cassidy warns, "You know he's just trouble."

"You too?" Delaney sighs, exasperated, "Why is everyone so set against him?"

"Because he's a lowlife with no future," Cassidy says harshly, "Open your eyes, Laney. He spends more time out of school than in, he'll never have a proper job, he'll end up a criminal. And he'll drag you right down with him."

"You don't know that," Delaney insists, "You don't know him."

"Neither do you, Laney."

I changed the name of the town to Drake's Hollow, and then I used the name Moonlight Falls for the local nightclub. Clever, huh?

  1. Great pictures!

Moonlight Falls is nice for a nightclub with bubbles and stuff.

But I secretly cringe every time I have to use it as the name of an actual town, lol. It was a joke-reference that got old fast.

Jack IS sweet to Laney, so I hope things turn out okay.

    1. A...joke reference? I no understand. I think I'm a little slow on the uptake. Especially since it came out in September and I still don't "get it". :P

    2. In my legacies, I named it as the town where X took place (at the time, SN was not yet released), not thinking the subject would ever come up again. Of course, it has come up again.

How did you rename the town btw, Melissa? Does it show in pop-ups as Drake's Hollow?

    3. I've put up with a lot of silly townnames from EA, but I just couldn't deal with Moonlight Falls for some reason, so I had to change it.
The name change is purely in my story. I did go and bchane any lot names that used the name Moonlight Falls to Drake's Hollow, but in pop ups it's still Moonlight Falls. There might be some way to really change the name in the game files, but I don't care enough about that to look for it, lol.

  2. As always, I love your screencaps.

I'll be interested to see where this relationship goes. Jack does seem really sweet to her, but I suppose he could be bad news like everyone else is telling her. I'm still hoping though that maybe Jack is just misunderstood. They look so cute together. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see. ;)

    1. Thanks, Tsuki!
It is hard to tell right now what Jack's intentions are, and if he's good or bad news for Delaney. They are a cute couple, though.

  3. I love the whole 'good girl gone bad' storyline that could come out of this. I'm planning one for a future generation, but it will be more 'good girl gone awful' with what I have planned :/ I feel almost guilty and the girl I'm on about isn't even born yet haha.

But back on topic, I can't wait to see whether Jack will change Delaney, or she'll change him, or nobody will change and it will all go tits up. I guess I'll have to wait though :)

There are a few different ways this story could go, including tits up, lol.

  4. Seems Delaney likes to play with fire, lol. I hope she doesn't get burned! Look at that, 2 cliches in a row! :P I don't blame her though, Jack is pretty cute! :D If you don't mind me asking, where did you get Jack's hair?

So I'm voting for the reform bad boy plot---considering he didn't want her to get into trouble, and had her returned home before curfew! :)

    1. Delaney has the Daredevil trait, so she does actually literally like to play with fire, lol.
Jack could just be a bad boy that wants a good girl, lol, but only time will tell.
      Here's his hair:

  5. I hope Jack doesn't get Delaney in TOO much trouble. He seems great so far. It's nice that Kyle and Cassidy are trying to look out for her, but I'm sure Delaney would prefer they didn't. Hopefully he turns out better than he was before.

    1. It's true, Delaney doesn't want help or advice from her siblings on this, she just wants to be with Jack.

  6. I guess I am the only one (so far) to get the nursery rhyme reference?

    "Little Jack Horner
    Sat in the corner,
    Eating a Christmas pie;
    He put in his thumb,
    And pulled out a plum,
And said 'What a good boy am I!"

I see what you did there!

Cute date, and I like Delaney's careful planning and even being late. She's a smart girl, lets hope she keeps her head on straight. :)

    1. LOL, so far you've been the only one to get the reference. But I can't take all the credit for being clever there, my Jack Horner is very influenced/inspired by the interpretation of Jack Horner in the Fables comic book series by Bill Willingham.

Delaney is a smart girl, let's hope she knows what she's getting into.

  7. Delaney and Jack *seem* adorable, so I'm going with my gut instinct at the moment and assume Kyle and Cassidy are just being over-protective right now. It's really lovely to read about the teens - I love how you can effortlessly go between fantasy to realism (well, as realistic as sims can get!) without it jarring in any way. <3

    1. Thanks, Elly. I try to integrate the fantasy element of the story so they aren't too jarring.

    Loved it.

  9. I do hope Delaney doesn't wind up in too much trouble as a result of this relationship (though so far Jack seems really sweet and not deserving of his reputation)

    1. It is stil hard to tell where Jack is on the bad boy scale. Whatever mischief he's gotten into, he is nice to Delaney.

  10. Panic panic panic. I am horribly concerned for Delaney. I do not approve of "bad boys." I hope he's more than meets the eye...in a good way.

Sooner or later, Jack will show his true colors, whatever they are.

  12. I enjoy seeing the kids grow older. Delaney and Jack are cute together but I do think he will get her in to all kinds of trouble really, he's just waiting until she's completely lured in. Lol.

    1. We do get to learn a lot more about Jack. Delaney definitely likes him too much to let him go just because her siblings don't trust him.
